"A Guide to Growing Native Plants of Southwest Virginia"

"A Guide to Growing Native Plants of Southwest Virginia" In-Person

Presented by Nicole Hersch

Free copies of "A Guide to Growing Native Plants of Southwest Virginia" will be available.

From the Guide: "This guide showcases the attractive variety of plants native to the Southwest Virginia region which includes the counties of Bland, Botetourt, Buchanan, Carroll, Craig, Dickerson, Floyd, Giles, Grayson, Lee, Montgomery, Pulaski, Roanoke, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington, Wise, and Wythe as well as the citites of Bristol, Galax, Norton, Radford, Roanoke, and Salem.

Native plant species have evolved within specific areas and been dispersed throughout their range. These plants form the primary structure of the living landscape and provide food and shelter for native animal species. Although this guide is not comprehensive, the native plants featured here were selected because they are attractive, relatively easy for the home gardener to acquire, easy to maintain, and offer various benefits to wildlife and the environment....

This regional plant guide was produced as part of a Commonwealth-wide native plant marketing effort, Plant Virginia Natives Initiative."
